Lubbock Shower

This weekend our Lubbock friends showered baby Addison. Saturday, our friends celebrated with us at the home of the Craigs. Everything from the food, to the punch, to the favors was lovely and fit for our little lady!

There were so many people there sharing their love and support. We were overwhelmed with all of the wonderful gifts; everything from clothes to a stroller, toys to Texas A&M goodies, and everything in between! Addison is definitely one loved baby!

As we said goodbye to our family on Sunday afternoon, we realized that we are now standing by for baby! We will be staying close to home over the next 4 weeks anticipating and preparing for her arrival. We cannot wait to meet our little Addison...she will be here in less than a month!

The Journey to 13.1 Miles

About 6 months ago my good friend Eleah Lehnen and I embarked on an adventure to run in our first ½ marathon. I have to admit that at the time I didn’t even know how far a ½ marathon was, but once we learned of the distance we were not deterred.

After buying my first pair of high quality running shoes we began the challenge. First 1 mile, then we were up to 2 full miles and trust me that was a challenge 6 months ago. We then joined a training group that sent out weekly homework which was completed, or you heard it from Eleah. Our training progressed and I was happy to learn that many people I know were also beginning to take on the challenge of the Dallas Rock and Roll ½ Marathon. Both of my sister in laws, Melody and Jennifer began to train and it wasn’t long before I was surrounded by a great support group.

As training progressed I started spending less time on the couch and more time racking up the miles, over 200 total miles ran during our training.

Race day was bitter sweet since my “running buddy” Eleah was unable to run, becoming ill just days before our big race. I was able to rely on my support group and my sister in law Melody and I took on the challenge together. We ran 10 miles the week before the race and at that point we knew we not only could but we will finish the race.

Race day was chilly and boy was I nervous! I tied and retied my shoes at a minimum of 30 times before I got the perfect tie on my trusty Nike’s.

The Start: After waiting for the thousands of people in front of us to be systematically released in corrals, next thing you know it was lucky number 13’s time to start. We kept a great pace leaving the downtown area and moving into the absolutely outrageous area of Highland Park. When I say outrageous I mean the homes were outrageous, the landscaping was outrageously beautiful, and the streets were lined with people having their morning walks with the finest specimens of pure bred dogs available. That’s why I was so excited to see a piece of reality. My precious and very pregnant wife holding my little black mutt, Snoop, while cheering us on.

Milestone: Crossing interstate 75 was a big milestone since that indicated that we were moving into our 7th mile. Our momentum was great and next thing you know we were at mile 10 where we were once again heard loving cheers from Marcy, brother in law Jeff, and now the group included Dad, Zack, and little Ethan. This gave us a shot in the arm to finish strong! We cruised pass mile 11 with the thought of the finish line in our near future.

The Wall: Mile 12 marker…..where is it at??? The mile marker finally came and the last 1.1 miles was all that was left. I made the suggestion to Melody that we keep our pace for the first .5 mile and then we start to make our final push. What that really meant to say was “I can’t run any faster” as we entered Fair Park for the final leg of the race. At this point no motivational music, or “just a little bit farther” spectator chant could bring me energy. I was running out of energy and I mean fast. There was hope of the mystical finish line in every corner we turned and trust me there were lots of corners we turned.

The Finish: I must preface this by telling you that at mile 11 I boldly told myself and Melody that we know we are going to finish, so now we have to make sure we leave it all out here on the road. The final corner was maneuvered and TADA the finish line appeared. All running partner communication had halted and Melody shot out for the finish. That gave me the boost to sprint the final 30 yards, which I would later regret. I stepped over the line, made a quick deposit in a trash can, and collected my participant medal.

Post Race Wrap Up: We quickly found Jennifer who led us to our group of family supporters where the reality of finishing and the pain that it brings set in. We made our way the Café Express for a bite to eat, reflect on the race, and take inventory of our aches.

I was so glad that I took on this challenge and I have a new appreciation for my health. My family has been such a great support and it really made my day to see my father proudly cheering me on and my wife scurrying around, while doing the math to find out what mile they can catch us at.

As I look at our crowded calendar of the upcoming weeks I am glad that this is checked off and now we are in full on baby mode!

Addison's First Party!

This weekend, we traveled to Lampasas for my hometown to shower little Addison.  I am so grateful for all of the hard work that our lovely hostesses put into making the shower so personal.  They thought of everything…of course, there was a lot of pink!  You could see the love and excitement for Addison’s upcoming arrival!

I was surrounded by wonderful family and many good friends.  Clay and I were both overwhelmed with the many gifts we received.  We feel blessed and one step closer to welcoming home our little one.

Everyone went above and beyond to make the shower memorable.  A big thanks to all my family and friends…this is going to be one very loved little girl!

Addison’s Room (Part 2)

This weekend my mom and Aunt Patty came to Lubbock to help decorate Addison’s room. The weekend was a whirlwind and we had such a good time together! We began Friday with nothing but a crib and dresser. By late Sunday night, the room had been transformed!

Close up of curtains my mom sewed.

Addison's resser/changing table.  We love the lanterns above the dresser!
The mirrors are the perfect height for Addison to look at herself in the mirror while being changed!

Addison and Erwin Update

Yesterday we got to see our little Addison for the last time before we get to meet her in person! I am now 30 weeks - less than 2 ½ months to go! It’s hard to believe how fast the time has flown! Addison is now measuring 15 inches and weighing 3 pounds 11 ounces. Although she is measuring close to her birth length, she will continue to gain up to a half a pound per week until she is born. We are told that she measures healthy and is developing as expected.

We have been busy recently with baby planning and pre-baby traveling. We have really taken advantage this year of our close proximity to the mountains in New Mexico. In January, we joined our Sunday school friends the Oliviers and Kimbroughs in Ruidoso for a little skiing, gambling, and relaxation. Clay recently went skiing in Angel Fire with our good friends Tyler Keeling, Seth Soloman, and Clay Kimbrough while I went to Amarillo for a little girl time with my good friend (and Seth’s wife) Lindsey. This past weekend we met our Fort Worth friends Wes Cooper and Paige Hamilton in Red River for a little more time on the mountain. Although my mountain activities have been strictly grounded, I have enjoyed the time away with Clay and catching up with friends.

Our lives won’t be slowing down over the next month! We will be hard at work with nursery decorating, showers, and Clay’s first half-marathon in Dallas. Stay tuned!

Addison's Room (Part 1)

We recently started the transition of our 'other room' into Addison's nursery. During the 2 1/2 years we have lived here, the room has gone from our junk room, to a Tommy Bahama inspired sitting room, and now to our baby's room!

It all started when we got the crib at Christmas. I'm always amazed when Clay is able to assemble furniture without the use of instructions.

The crib made the room start to look like the baby’s room but it still needed a face lift!
Although Clay suggested we use the deer horns as a bow holder, we decided to take them down!
I knew that a little paint would make a huge difference. We wanted a soft color and narrowed it down to yellow or pink. 3 shades of pink, 7 shades of yellow, and a committee meeting with Ashley later, we decided on a Buttered Yellow (which I describe as the perfect shade of cute)!

This weekend we painted the room. We were so grateful to have Ashley who holds a black belt in painting help with the project.

The room looks great and now is starting to look like our baby’s room. Melody surprised us with her bedding and little by little the room is coming together!

Stay tuned for more…we have lots planned for Addison’s room!

Auld Lang Syne and Old Gruene Hall

Lubbock to Granbury to Gruene and home to Lubbock.  3 days of travel for a total of 975 miles...what a way to ring in the New Year!

Friday we started our trip to join Zack, Jen, Doug, and friends to ring in the new year under the big tent at the Waltz Across the Pasture, a "Texas Style New Year's Party".  The night started with a show by Walt Wilkins and The Mystiqueros and we rang in the new year with Brandon Rhyder.  We think Addison may come out dancing to the tune of "Rock Angel"!

Clay has said that The Mystiqueros at Gruene Hall on New Year's Day is one of his favorite shows so Saturday morning we all woke up and headed to Gruene.  I spent most of the day listening from the front room of Gruene Hall with Jen and Ethan.  We had a great day visiting, people watching, and enjoying the atmosphere.  We joined Clay, Doug, and Zack for several of our farvorite songs and to take some pictures.

On Sunday we started our long drive home.  We enjoyed our trip through the Texas Hill Country and are happy to be home after our long 3 days.

We are looking forward to 2011 and all of the exciting new changes it will bring.  What a wonderful time we had ringing in the new year...it's going to be a great one!
