It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Christmas found us traveling from Lubbock to Comanche to Lampasas and back. We started our travels on Thursday before Christmas which gave Clay some (cold) time in the deer stand. Thursday, Zack, Jen and Ethan arrived with wonderful news…a new Erwin baby is expected! We cannot wait for the arrival of Baby E in July!

On Christmas Eve Eve, we opened gifts with Mary and Megan before enjoying dinner and a card game (although I don’t remember what it’s called, it was fun)!
We woke up Christmas Eve morning and opened gifts together. After breakfast, it was time to hit the road again.

We then traveled to Lampasas where we were met by Melody and Jeff. We attended Christmas Eve service at the church I grew up in. The 8:00 pm service was too much for Addison and she fell asleep before the carols were sung. We did plan ahead and took pictures with Addison in her Christmas dress before we left for church!

Aunt Meddy and Uncle Heffery
Santa arrived Christmas morning and brought Addison a play table. Addison LOVED playing with her toys! She is definitely one loved (and perhaps slightly spoiled) little girl!

There have been times that we look at Addison and see changes. Christmas morning was one of those times. She is crawling EVERYWHERE! She is pulling up on EVERYTHING! She is babbling like CRAZY! She is HAPPY!

We returned home Monday morning refreshed from the time with family and looking forward to the new year.

Amen and Pass the Butter,
Marcy

8 Month Update

Gone are the days when Addison would stay where we plopped her.  It’s a big exciting world out there and she is ready to explore…and scoot, creep, crawl, or cruise.
Addison’s world is full of interesting things to explore, and her ten tiny fingers (and two fists) are becoming the perfect tools for probing.  Now she can zero in on tiny objects (like the smallest piece of paper or dropped food on the floor) and grab them (and usually put them in her mouth).  With this new ability, we have started to offer her puffs at meal times.  She also grabs for any interesting objects, usually my hair, earrings, or Aunt Meddy’s necklaces, and of course, once she gets a grip, into the mouth they go!
Addison playing with (and chewing on) her natavity!
 This month, we woke up to find Addison in her crib like this…
Time to lower the crib!
We could not believe it…we now have a baby that pulls herself up!  While she plays with toys on the coffee table, she at times forgets that she needs to hold on and can stand without any support.

She loves to make friends with strangers with big waves. While we are shopping, Addison enjoys riding in the buggie. You would think that she is Miss America on a parade float the way she waves at all of the people we pass!

This month we enjoyed Addison’s first Thanksgiving.  It was off to the last Texas A&M v. Texas football game for Clay (yes Jeff we know the outcome) and Black Friday shopping with my mom and Melody in Dallas.  Addison, in true Melton style, joined us (and the masses) to find some bargains!
Addison going through the Black Friday ads planning her shopping!
Finding deals Black Friday shopping with her purse!

Addison has definitely been in the holiday spirit! She wore a different Christmas outfit to school every day this month. Some would call me carried away, I call it festive!

 December has been a busy month for us as I’m sure it has been for all of you. Clay and I have enjoyed several “adult” Christmas parties – including the CTHG dinner, KCBD white elephant gift exchange, and Junior Women’s Club party. We also enjoyed celebrating Christmas with our girl at our Sunday School family party and church children’s nativity pageant.

Addison and her friend Carson wore the same outfit to the party!
We visited Santa at Vintage Township’s winter wonderland.  She was a fan of Santa but Mrs. Claus…not so much!

As I sit writing this post, we find ourselves at the beginning of our Christmas holiday.  We will be enjoying time in Comanche with our Erwin family and Lampasas with our Melton family.  This year, I have received the best of all gifts – time with family, the love of my husband, and a healthy baby girl.  We remain mindful of the true meaning of Christmas and the greatest gift of all.

Our verse this month is Matthew 2:10, “When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.”  We are filled with peace and joy this Christmas.
Holiday blessings and Amen and Pass the Butter,

Santa Baby

We thought that Addison, being a very social baby who loves to be cooed over, would love to sit in Santa's lap and we were right!

However, when we moved her over to Mrs. Claus's lap, she wasn't such a fan!
After seeing the pictures, Ty, Addison's godfather, made the following observation:  Why would anyone be friends with Mrs. Clause anyway?  She doesn’t deliver the presents.  No incentive to get on her good side.  “He’s making the list and checking it twice….”  You don’t hear anything about him having to run it by the old lady…I like her style.  She can quickly evaluate a situation and determine who the real players are!  (Yea, another developmental milestone...although I haven't seen that one on Baby Central!)

After the pictures, Addison was safe in the arms of her daddy!

We are full of cheer this holiday season!  Amen and pass the butter,
Marcy

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We recently braved the Lubbock wind with our photographer friend Ellen and captured these fun shots with our girl!

Hoping your Christmas season is filled with as many blessings and as much cheer as ours!

Amen and Pass the Butter,

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas***

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere Addison goes;
Take a look at her sweet dress from her Aunt Meddy none the less,
Along with a big bow
.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
With 2 babies under 9 months.
Addison (7 mo) and church friend Carson Bibb (8 mo)
But the sweetest sight to see is a baby playing with a nativity
On your own livingroom floor.

***Disclaimer:  I realize this is super cheesy but how can you not be in the holiday spirit with this face!

Dedication of Our Addison

Marcy’s Mom, here, as a guest on the Erwin Family Blog. I want to report to you about an exciting day in the life of my perfect granddaughter. Addison was baptized at Marcy and Clay’s beautiful church in Lubbock this month. We were blessed to have in attendance many who love her. Included in the day was Marcy’s Dad (& me of course) and Marcy’s sister Melody with her husband Jeff.
Clay’s family included his Dad, his brother Zack, sister-in-law Jenn and Addison’s favorite cousin, Ethan. It was lovely meeting Addison’s newest fans, Mary and Megan who came in from Comanche.
Also there were Addison’s Godparents, Ashley & Ty Hamm.
In the congregation that day were a score of people who are included in the number who support the Lubbock Erwins in their faith walk.

The weekend began for Addison’s Papa & me Friday evening. We had to get there as early as we could because I was making Addison’s baptism dress and it wasn’t finished yet (I am not as good as Marcy at getting things done early). I finished the dress Friday night – all Meltons were surprised I was not sewing Sunday morning as we were driving up to the church. Marcy spent the evening beginning preparation for our Thanksgiving meal that was planned for the Meltons and Erwins on Saturday – we DO have so much to be thankful for!

Saturday morning found Melody & Jeff flying in from Dallas, the Comanche crew arriving, and Zack & his family popping in (thanks Sarah for your hospitality). The Melton girls enjoyed a bit of shopping at Holiday Happening and found some holiday treasures for our Addison (I am sure you will see our girl in her fabulous Christmas frocks here later in the season – stay tuned!)

The weekend’s celebration was shared with the Hamms on Saturday when they revealed that their awaited-one is going to be Addison’s best GIRLfriend. Blessings on you, Ashley & Ty.

Sunday arrived and the service couldn’t have been more lovely. The orchestra was in attendance (Addison couldn’t sit still as they played) and the Pastor blessed us with his words. Addison was perfect. You can see from the pictures that she loved all of the attention. Our day concluded with a lunch at the country club where Marcy & Clay not only fed us well, but shared sweet words about how they feel blessed.

I will pray this Holiday season by name for all of you who follow this blog.

Peace – and, Amen and Pass the Butter,
Janet

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dearest Addison,
Today is the day of your baptism. I wanted to be a special part of your special day. I decided to make the dress you (and all of my grandbabies) would wear on this day. I decided to make it out of my wedding gown. Over 37 years ago I wore it on the day that your Papa and I made a commitment to God and each other. Today, you are surrounded by those who love you as we make a commitment to you and God to be a part of your spiritual journey. As I made your beautiful dress I prayed for you. I prayed that you would have a heart that yearned for God. I prayed your future would include an assurance that you are loved. I prayed that you would have a personal relationship with Christ.
As you grow, turn to those here with you today. Remember that no one loves you like me.
My love,
Your Honey
Be Thankful
We hosted our families the weekend before Thanksgiving for Addison’s baptism and our Thanksgiving meal.  It was a wonderful time to share a meal together and reflect on our many blessings over the past year.  This year I am thankful for:
10 little toes
Messy faces
Eye Lashes
Tickle time with Dad
Babies that sit up
Kisses from cousins
Spending time with my mom and sister Black Friday shopping
Babies that sleep in the car during the 8 hour drive to Dallas and 6 1/2 hour drive home
My husband
Giving thanks for our many blessings,
Marcy
